Tell your tenants to pay electricity bills, APLE begs landlords

Landlords in Abia State have been urged to help Aba Power Ltd (APL), a division of Geometric Group, by ensuring that their tenants pay their energy bills on time.

At a meeting with Aba landlords on Thursday on Ngwa Road, Barth Nnaji, the chief executive officer of Geometric Group, made the appeal.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) relinquished control of the Aba Ring-Fenced Area’s power supply to APL in February 2022.
The Osisioma, Isiala Ngwa North and South, Aba North and South, Obingwa, Ugwunagbo, and Ukwa East and West local government areas of Abia make up the Aba Ring-Fenced Area.

Mr. Nnaji claimed that because Aba residents were using electricity but without paying for it, the firm owed its power providers N5.2 billion.
He said that the business paid EEDC $26 million as opposed to the $11.8 million EEDC received when it purchased the Aba region, after paying its engineers, litigating the matter for nine years, and incurring other costs.

Mr. Nnaji claimed that because the corporation had invested so much cash, he pleaded with the locals to help by paying their bills on time so they might receive better service.

He claimed that while Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) had cut off its supply to APL due to indebtedness, APL had not decreased the amount of power they were purchasing from NDPHC.
In June or July 2023, according to Mr. Nnaji, the Geometric electricity-generating turbines at the company’s headquarters in Osisioma will begin to operate.

He claims that this will assist in stabilizing Aba’s electricity supply.

He stated that the company’s generating unit, Geometric Power, anticipated monthly gas expenditures of $2.2 million for 30 million standard cubic meters.

In order to support his company’s efforts to stabilize the electricity supply in the commercial city, Mr. Nnaji urged the populace to make prompt payments on their bills.
Alphonsus Udeigbo, the general president of the Aba Landlords Development Association, responded by demanding that households be charged for actual energy used rather than just an estimate. In order to lessen the problem of payment defaults, Mr. Udeigbo also asked for the provision of prepaid meters to homes.

“The business will be easier for you and Aba residents when you do these things,” he remarked.
